Aardvark
(Orycteropus afer)

The aardvark is a medium sized mammal native to Africa.  It's name is from the Dutch/Africaans language meaning "Earth Pig" (aarde=earth, varken=pig).  It was likely misnamed because European settlers thought the creature resembled a pig and it lives in burrows in the earth.

The aardvark is a solitary, nocturnal creature that feeds mostly on ants and termites, though it also eats a fruit called the aardvark cucumber.
